Jason Lee Elementary shall jointly develop with, and distribute to, parents and family members of participating children a written parent and family engagement policy, agreed on by parents, that shall describe the means for carrying out the requirements of Every Student Succeeds Act.
Parents shall be notified of the policy in an understandable and uniform format and, to the extent practicable, provided in a language the parents can understand. The policy shall be made available to the local community and updated periodically to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
The policy will be available in both print and electronic formats with a copy posted on the State and Federal Programs website, as well as available in the school office. Copies of the policy will be available in both English and Spanish or other languages represented by the families in the school community.
Jason Lee Elementary will coordinate and integrate parent involvement activities with other Federal, State, and local programs such as the migrant program, including public preschool/early education programs, and special education programs that also address parent family engagement.
Parent Family Engagement Events
Annual Title I Parent Meeting
Jason Lee Elementary shall hold an Annual Title I Parent Meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend. The purpose of this meeting is to inform parents of their school's participation in and requirements of Title IA, and the right of the parents to be involved in their child's education. The Parent Family Engagement Policy is reviewed, and parent input is gathered at this meeting.
As part of the Annual Title I Meeting, Jason Lee Elementary shall provide parents:
- Timely information about Title I program supports.
- A description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the achievement levels of the challenging State academic standards.
- Opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
The Annual Title I Meetings will be held in the fall and will be repeated as necessary to ensure meetings are held at a convenient time/day to meet parents' work schedules. Advance notice of meetings will be sent to parents in one or more of the following forms:
- Emails
- Social media postings
- School Reader Board
- Parent Square
The campus administrator will be responsible for conducting the meeting.
Parent Input in Parent/Family Engagement Policy and Campus Improvement Plan
Jason Lee Elementary shall involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way to review this Parent Family Engagement plan. The Parent Family Engagement Plan and Policy will be reviewed and revised annually during the Annual Title I Meeting and/or the Title I Parent & Family Engagement Evaluation.
Additionally, parents will be included in the planning, review, and improvement of Title I programs and the development of the schoolwide program plan (Campus Improvement Plan). Parents from each demographic group will be invited and encouraged to participate in the development of the Campus Improvement Plan.
Parents are invited and encouraged to participate in the development of the Schoolwide Plan/Campus Improvement Plan. A copy of the plan will be provided to parents on request and/or will be posted on the district or campus website for review by parents. If the Campus Improvement Plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, parents are encouraged to submit any comments on the plan to the building principal.
Parent Input in Evaluation of the Campus Improvement Plan
Jason Lee Elementary will conduct, with the meaningful involvement of parents and family members, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parent and family engagement policy in improving the academic quality of all schools. At the end of every school year, the campus will conduct a meeting or administer a survey for parents to evaluate the content and effectiveness of the parent and family engagement policy and the PFE programs and services.
Providing Parent Workshops
To ensure the effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school, Jason Lee Elementary shall provide workshops for parents, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the challenging State academic standards, State and local academic assessments, and how to monitor a child's progress and work with educators to improve the achievement of their children. Resources and assistance for parents to help their child improve academically may include:
- Parenting classes
- Content awareness nights
- Transition from 5th grade to middle school
Parents are informed about these workshops and activities in a variety of ways including one or more of the following:
- Emails
- Parent Square
- Social media
- School reader boards
Parents will have the opportunity to provide input on the parent workshops programs and activities during scheduled parent meetings throughout the year.
- PTA involvement
- Conferences
- Electronic Surveys
Value and Utility of Working with Parents Training for Staff
Jason Lee Elementary will educate teachers, specialized instructional support personnel, principals, and other school staff, in the value and utility of contributions of parents. Parent input will be requested to design information such as how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal partners, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and the school. All staff on the Title I campus will attend this annual training on the Value & Utility of Working with Parents. Parents will be encouraged to provide their input into the information for the training.
Jason Lee Elementary will provide reasonable support for parental involvement activities. Examples of support may include:
- Evening events
- Child Care assistance during activities
- Virtual meetings
